The ethics of buying and selling text link ads

I’m trying to wrap my head around the issues, as some personal bloggers I read are directly selling link advertising on their sites, which I actually support. TextLinkBrokers’ Jarrod Hunt in the comments is up front that it’s mostly about buying search engine ranking.
