Fuck Yeah Renting!:

I rent in Vancouver, and have for over a decade, and not only that, but I don’t see that changing any time soon. In the spirit of spreading myself too thin, I’ve started a new Tumblr called Fuck Yeah Renting! Original title, right? I will catalogue articles I find discussing renting vs. buying in the North American context. I will keep an open mind to the arguments put forth for buying, though my bias will stick towards renting. If owning property works for you, then I salute you.

I won’t subscribe to any blogs or Twitter accounts (or whatever’s current at the moment) having to do with the subject, but rather just share what I come across in a ‘stumble on it’ sense. I have enough people in my social network that I bump into something once a week or so. Call it a pop-up blog that I will maintain as long as I have to. I’ll consider co-authors, but I don’t want editorials or anything, just sharing stuff on the Internet about renting property (and possible other things, like physical items, say tools and cars and whatnot, but mostly real estate).

The Twitter account, for those who like such things, is @fuckyeahrenting, but expect no conversations to come from that account. (I’ll reply to tweets directed there from @sillygwailo.) Just stuff shared from the Tumblr and the odd administrative message.

Megan and her friend Horatio is visiting every library in the Vancouver Public Library system this summer. Like many ideas, good and bad (and this is a good one), in late June I decided I would make a Gowalla trip of all the VPL branches and review each library after I visited. I’m glad someone else thought of this independently. Details about Megan are limited, but it sounds from her Oakridge post that she “hang[s] around the teen section” giving a clue as to her age.

This bookworm approves. And I think I’ll go through with my effort, calling it the “All Branches Club” with Megan as the inaugural member.

I had this idea that I’d build a map for it, much like I did for some guy’s list of 50 best restaurants in Vancouver. That’s still possible, but on the backburner. A trip on Gowalla might have made sense, but they limit it to 25 spots total. The other thought was to make a trip out of the category of patios, but then only those are limited to 3 or 4 each.

Coming out of a time out Duke was down 102-103 with 2.1 seconds left. Rick Patino left Grant Hill unguarded underneath his own basket. He heaved a pass the length of the court to Laettner who caught it right at the foul line. With his back to the basket Laettner dribbles once, fakes right, turns left and hits a jumper as time expires. It’s a fantastic sequence.
