That was close. I almost went a long weekend without a Rob Vanmega DJ set!

Just in time for the long weekend, I DJ’d up a set for you.

This is a summery set of sorta chilled out electronic goodness. A perfect accompaniment when you’re pool-side, beach-side, boat-side, hot dog-side, or whatever… as long as you have a drink in your hand and speakers turned up you’ll be good. 16 songs mixed in about 30 minutes.

Houston Astros exchange tickets for unwanted electronics. That combines two of my favourite things: the Houston Astros (OK, maybe I don’t care about the lowly Astros, but I care about baseball) and concern for the environment!

A Major League Baseball team’s offer of free Saturday-night game tickets in exchange for unwanted electronics is a big deal, both in terms of generating greater awareness about the need to dispose thoughtfully of computers, cell phones, and other equipment and strengthening the team’s ‘good community player’ image.

I applaud the Houston Astros (my hometown team) for doing such a thing — holding its first “e-cycling event” — this Saturday at Houston’s Minute Maid Park (formerly Enron Field, but I digress). Let’s hope that other professional sports teams in other markets follow suit and hold similar events.

Remember that 50 Greatest Hip-Hop Samples Of All Time list Complex.com put out recently? It was great not only because of the songs curated, but also because it used a flash-based player that allowed you to listen to every song listed in its entirety.

I did some snooping through the Complex’s source HTML code. Turns out that the flash player actually uses high quality mp3s for each song, but those mp3 links are purposefully hidden.

I’ve painstakingly gone through the source code of the entire sample list (50 pages worth!) and fished out the direct links to ALL of the full length mp3s. I then took that data and created a web page which lists all those links. You can access it here and directly download all 50 of those wonderful songs. You can do it in one click if you use Firefox with the down them all addon.

[José Bautista] won’t keep this up all year, but he will be an interesting trade chip for the Blue Jays. He’s capable of playing all four corner positions, makes just $2.4 million this year and is arbitration eligible at the end of the season, so he’s not strictly a rent-a-player. Come July, when Toronto’s efforts to keep up with Tampa Bay and New York have fallen short, don’t be surprised if Bautista is one of the more coveted guys on the market.

OR! The Jays could make me happy and keep José Bautista and not trade him to the Yankees like they did with my first favourite Blue Jay, that other right-fielder with a strong arm, mediocre hitting with some pop, Jesse Barfield. Re-sign J-BAU!
